Boschvelder

The Boschvelder is one of our indigenous chicken breeds that was bred using the Matabele, Ovambo and Venda chickens.  The result is a hardy, dual-purpose breed that is very active and curious. They are technically recognized as a synthetic indigenous breed.

They start laying at around 6 months and make good brooders. You should receive about 200 light brown eggs per day from your Boschvelders.

They should have a single red comb and wattles. Generally brown with white and black colouring in their feathers.

If you are looking for a hardy bird that is very alert and able to defend themselves from predators the Boschvelder might just be for you. They enjoy being able to roost high above the ground and will make great free rangers.

They do great as a pest controller, however, they are incredibly active and will destroy a veggie garden quite easily.

    • Hi there, I hope you are well.
Please see the email I sent you with our price list.
Egg orders must be placed in multiples of 6 and is dependent on breed availability at the time.
Please note that we will only be supplying fertile eggs again from September.
