Barbu D’Uccles

One of the friendliest bantams around! They make excellent brooders and do well as pest controllers in the garden. Their feathered feet and fluffy cheeks give these birds an adorable look that is sure to steal your heart!

Barnevelder

A low maintenance and hardy, dual-purpose breed with gorgeous double lacing in its feathers make this bird an excellent addition to any flock! They are known for their striking feathers and can lay around 200 brown eggs per year.

Black Australorp

An Australian heritage breed that was developed specifically for egg production, the Black Australorp excels at this with a reputation of laying in excess of 300 light brown eggs per year. Huge and beautiful, with dark black feathers and regal stature they are sure to be a favorite in your flock.

Black Copper Marans

A unique bird hailing from France, the Black Copper Marans are exquisite in both feathering and eggs. Said to be one of the best tasting eggs around, the shells are a dark chocolate brown that is sure to catch the eye. You can expecgt between 200 – 250 gorgeously dark eggs from them per year.

Boschvelder

An indigenous breed that is beautiful to watch, with pretty speckling on their feathers and a curious personality that will be a stellar addition to any flock. Bred as hardy chickens that are excellent as layers or meat birds, they are low maintenance and highly alert while giving an average of 200 light brown eggs per year.

Buff Orpington

Bred n the late 1800s by William Cook to fill a gap in the market form a dual-purpose breed. The Buff Orpington is friendly and docile and quickly became a favorite of Queen Elizabeth. They will lay 200+ brown eggs a year and make great mothers!

Easter Egger

Renowned for the production of pastel coloured eggs these hardy chickens were bred in the USA using blue and brown layers. They are generally friendly, quiet, and make great foragers. You can expect over 200 green, blue, pink or brown eggs from them per year.

Light Sussex

A stately dual-purpose British breed that has exceptional table qualities with great egg production as well. You an expet 200 – 250 brown eggs from these friendly girls per year.

Olive Eggers

Olive Eggers are a hybrid bred for their stunning egg colours! We use Black Copper Marans over blue layers (Araucana) or green layers (Swedish Isbars) to create gorgeous colour options for your egg baskets!

Polish Crested Bantam

An adorable bird that was bred in the Netherlands, its name was derived from the Dutch word “pol” which mean head, creating confusing as to its origins. These small birds will give you approximately 80 small white eggs per year and will help out as a pest control service in the garden.

Potchefstroom Koekoek

Developed in Potchefstroom, the Koekoek is another dual-purpose indigenous breed perfect for any chicken keeper. They have a friendly temperament and go broody readily. You can expect 200+ light brown eggs per year.

Rhode Island Red

Another excellent American breed, the Rhode Islands are excellent layers of 280+ brown eggs per year and are a generally friendly, hardy breed.

Sebrights

A stunning bantam breed from England that is currently on the endangered list, they are one of the oldest recorded British Bantams. They are a stunning show or ornamental bird and do well in confinement.

Silkie

These chickens were first encountered by Europeans when Marco Polo saw them in the 13th century. These unusual chickens boast 5 toes, blue skin, turquoise earlobes and blue bones. They make exceptional pets and are great scavengers for pests in the garden. You can expect 80 cream eggs per year.

Venda

Our final indigenous breed the Venda were bred and kept by the Venda people in Limpopo. Famed as alert, hardy birds that are effective for tick and fly control and even the occasional rodent! You can expect 180 – 200 light beige eggs per year.

White Leghorn

One of the best heritage egg-layers available, the White Leghorn was bred in Italy and can lay upwards of 300 large white eggs per year. They are excellent foragers, their flighty nature making them very hard to predate on.

Wyandotte

These gorgeous and distinctive birds have been a favorite of chicken enthusiasts for generations. They were bred in the USA for their beauty, meat and eggs. You can expect 200 light beige eggs per year.
