Easter Egger

Bred from blue layers such as the Araucana and Ameruacana and brown layers, the Easter Egger can lay blue, green, brown or pink eggs. It is important to note that one hen will always lay that colour. While they are primarily layers they do make a great dual purpose breed.

They start to lay at approximately 7 months although some note that it can be longer. An Easter Egger hen will give you about 200 prettily coloured eggs per year.

While our flock only lays blue and green eggs, chicks from our birds have the possibility of laying pink or brown eggs.

Feather colouring varies from bird to bird with single coloured, splash, mottled and cuckoo variations. It is preferred for them to have a pea comb and muffs and we do select for thesetraits in our flocks. Some birds might have beards or be rumpless as well.

Easter Eggers are a fun, curious breed that will make a great addition to existing flocks. They enjoy free ranging, however they will handle confinement well.

  1. I am very interested in getting Easter Eggers for my Grandson on the farm. He would like to start with them. Please let me know how much they are? How old are they ? We will need layers and a cockerel, are you able to identify sex for basic collection.

I’m also interested in the Drip system but can’t find your add to be able to choose the size. I think I wanted the longest garden set with all attachments, +/- R1400.
Good news is I am coming to Joburg in Mid-October so would like to order and pay now, and collect then, if possible. Not sure exactly the day, but are you open most days? I will also like to get some seeds, Hopewells in Howick seems to be very low on supplies!

    Thanks
    Annella
